UL 2756
This Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. safety standard includes the technical and manufacturing requirements for tablet computers. Various production line test methods are available as well as instructions on labeling tablet PCs. Further, specifications on the manufacture of the battery, thermoplastic parts, power supply, and connectors are also included.
IEC 60950-1
This International Electrotechnical Commission standard on IT equipment provides the relevant test methods on safety that may be used on tablet PCs. By adapting the various tests included in this standard, the risk of injury or damage caused by like electric shock, fire, radiation are minimized.
IEEE 1680.1
The market is increasingly becoming more aware and concerned with the pressing environmental issues. Products that are marketed as environment-friendly are perceived to be of higher value and quality. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers standard provides the test methods and acceptable levels on environmental performance of personal computers including tablet PCs.
ISO/IEC TR 24705
One of the primary considerations when buying tablet PCs is display quality. This standard by the Organization on International Standardization deals with the color reproduction of display devices including tablet PCs. Specifically, a test method that determines the changes in the color reproduction if settings are altered is provided. This enables the manufacturer to adjust tablet PCs settings so that the best color quality is attained.
IEC 61606-4 Ed. 1.0
Audio quality is another important consideration when choosing a tablet PC. The International Electrotechnical Commission IEC 61606-4 provides the specific test methods and levels of acceptability for audio parts of handheld computers. This standard may be used in conjunction with IEC 61606-1.
IEC/TS 62393 Ed. 1.0
Battery run-time is significant to users of handheld devices as it implies the length of time they are able to enjoy their gadgets before recharging again. This IEC standard provides the test methods to determine the battery run-time of tablet PCs.
DIN EN 62623:2010
This German Institute for Standardization standard provides the test methods on the energy consumption of personal computers including handheld devices.
IEC 60268-4 Ed 4.0
Tablet PCs have built-in microphones. This IEC standard provides the test methods that may be used in measuring performance of built-in microphones used in these handheld computers.
ASTM F2617 – 08e1
To avoid product recall, loss of profit, and court litigations, tablet PC suppliers must make sure that their products have passed the existing regulations on hazardous substances. ASTM F2617 provides the test methods used to identify and quantify these regulated chemicals.
