Bath Towel Inspection and Quality Control Standards
One of the most important essentials that we must have in our homes are bath towels. Typically, a household with five members would ideally have at least 20 bath towels or more. There are four classifications of bath towels, and they are the following:
- Washcloth– These are small bath towels that are usually made up of terry cloth and are often used to exfoliate skin and wash the face and hands.
- Hand Towels– are displayed near the sink so people can dry off their hands or faces after washing.
- Bath Towels– these are generally used for the entire body after taking a bath. Bath towels are often made of terry cloth for maximum absorption purposes.
- Bath Sheets – are larger than bath towels and are often seen in hotel bathrooms or guest rooms. These towels are large enough to dry of after taking a bath and wrap you up.

Some of the international standards which we employ in developing our inspection protocols include:
Skal Organic Certification
The Skal Organic Certification is displayed on European bath towels. Bath towels bearing the Skal logo are manufactured using chemical-free finishes, such as wheat starch as the sizing agent. Hydrogen peroxide is used to whiten cotton instead of chlorine bleach.
Oeko-Tex
Oeko-Tex an international testing and certification system for home textiles, limiting the use of certain chemicals. Oeko-Tex was developed in 1992 and is used as a safety standard used to evaluate bath towels for harmful chemicals or substances at each stage in the production process.
ASTM D4772 – 09
The ASTM D4772 – 09 Test Method is used to determine the surface water absorption of terry fabric used in bath towels.
ASTM D4250-92
The ASTM D4250-92 is designed for determining the water-holding capacity using predetermined times of soaking and excess water extraction.
Global Organic Textile Standard
The Global Organic Textile Standard is used to ensure organic status of bath towels. This standard applies to the harvesting of the raw materials, manufacturing, and the labeling process.
