Bicycle Inspection and Quality Control Standards
The increasing global awareness of the importance of clean air has persued consumers to start using bicycles as transportation. Recreational bicycle riding is also promoted by health organizations as a great way to exercise and remain healthy. These trends provide China, who is the largest producer of bicycles in the world, a great economic opportunity.
InTouch is the leading bicycle inspection and quality control services provider in China and has helped a wide range of bicycle brands, importers and retailers to perform high-level inspections and on-site testing, to ensure their products are first-rate.
Some of the international standards which Intouch employs in developing inspection protocols include:
ISO 4210:1996
The International Organization on Standardization formulated ISO 4210 which covers the performance and safety requirements for bicycles. ISO 4210 contains specifications for the design and manufacture, as well as the relevant test methods for bicycles.
ISO 8098:2002
ISO 8098:2002 provides the performance and safety requirements, including test methods on bicycles intended for use by young children between the ages of four to eight years old.
BS EN 14781:2005
The British Standards Institute BS EN 14781:2005 standard provides the safety requirements and test methods for racing bicycles.
ISO 9633:2001
ISO 9633:2001 deals with the standard specifications and test methods for chains used in bicycles.
ISO 5775-1:1997
ISO 5775-1 covers the safety specification, tire dimensions and test methods for bicycle tires.
ASTM F2711-08
ASTM F2711-08 covers the specifications for bicycle frames. The test methods included in these standards establish compression tolerance, bending tolerance, impact resistance, horizontal and vertical load capacity, and tensile strength life.
JIS D 9451:2007
The Japanese Standards Association created JIS D9451 to cover the manufacturing requirements and test methods for bicycle bells.
ASTM F1447-06
The American Society for Testing and Materials International F1447-06 standard covers the safety and performance requirements for helmets manufactured for recreational bicycle riding.
ASTM F1952-10
ASTM F1952 defines the specification requirements for mountain bicycle racing helmets. Helmets adhering to this standard have higher impact tolerance than those designed for recreational biking. This is in response to various studies that establish higher risk for head and face injury for mountain bicycle racing compared to recreational biking.
ASTM F2032-06
ASTM F2032-06 applies to BMX cycling helmets. The test methods on this standard require higher impact testing results compared to helmets used in recreational biking.
JIS C 7510:2000
The innovation on bicycle dynamo lamps provides a more environment-friendly solution to battery-powered lights. JIS C 7510 is designed to provide test methods to determine the performance of the dynamo lamps.
