Human Repeat Insult Patch Test (HRIPT)
The Human Repeat Insult Patch Test is a reliable method that is used to test the mildness of a baby wipe. During this test a raw material ingredient, or multiple of ingredients, will be applied to a human volunteer. (This will normally be applied to the inside of the forearm). The area is then covered with a large bandage and the area will then be evaluated by a clinician or dermatologist after a specified time. Any irritations, redness or rashes are then assigned a numerical value. The scores from all the human volunteers are averaged. 0 or 1, is a low average score that would indicate that the baby wipe is generally non-irritating.
Before the raw materials are added to the mixing tank, they are tested for quality control to conform to specifications. During the manufacturing process, each raw material ingredient is weighed beforeit is added to the mixing tank. Then the final batch of the materials is tested for basic specifications, such as the viscosity, microbial content and pH levels. This process ensures quality is delivered, and maintained to ASTM specifications.
