ISO 5912-2011

The International Organization for Standardization ISO 5912 standard deals with safety and performance requirements for camping tents. ISO 5912 includes flammability tests, rain resistance test, ventilation test, and marking and labeling guidelines.

ASTM F1932-98

The American Society for Testing and Materials International formulated ASTM F1932-98 to deal with sleeping bags commonly used in camping. ASTM F1932-98 is used to measure the loft or thickness of sleeping bags.

ASTM F1933-98

The American Society for Testing and Materials International formulated F1933-98 to deal with illustrating the floor plan and labeling of backpacking tents.

 

 

ANSI Z21-63b

This American National Standards Institute standard covers portable camp heating devices powered by propane, butane, and LPG. These devices are commonly used by campers on cold environments where heating is necessary.

ANSI Z21-72b
ANSI Z21-72b applies to gas-powered portable stoves used in camping. The test methods and specifications included in this standard covers profane, butane, and LPG stoves.

UL 8750

The newest types of camping lanterns and lighting products use light emitting diodes (LED). UL 8750 deals with the performance and safety issues of these LED lighting devices. Mechanical and electrical manufacturing specifications are provided in detail in this standard. UL 8750 also includes performance tests including temperature testing, environmental testing, adhesive support testing, and mechanical strength testing for metal enclosures. Further, specifications on rating, marking, and identification are provided in this standard.

ANSI/NEMA FL 1

NFPA 701

ANSI Z21-73

This ANSI standard provides test methods and specifications for portable camping lanterns using propane gas.

ISO EN 581

Camping is made more comfortable by bringing chairs and tables designed for this outdoor activity. ISO EN 581 is a group of four safety standards on camping chairs and tables which include the following:

  • ISO EN 581-1 deals with general safety
  • ISO EN 581-2 is for specific mechanical requirements and tests on camping chairs
  • ISO EN 581-3 is for the mechanical requirements and tests on camping tables
  • ISO EN 581-4 is for durability testing for both
