The difference between a non woven material and a woven material is the non woven materials are bonded together through solvent, mechanical, heat or chemical treatment. The most common non woven materials are polyesters and polypropylene which are call synthetic polymers.

Non-woven materials are often used for:

  • geotextiles
  • carpets
  • personal and household wipes
  • roofing and insulation
  • wall coverings
  • medical field apparel
  • upholstery fabrics

The following are a few of the quality control procedures employed by Intouch during the development of testing protocols for non woven materials:

Mechanical Inspection Process

  • Inspect the reduction in strength using a tensile surface strength test performed by an Instron machine.
  • Test for the tearing strength of non woven materials
  • Test for the deterioration of non woven materials by exposure to light, moisture and heat.
  • Inspect non woven materials against approved International standards

Thermal Inspection Process

  • Inspect the weight of non woven material in relation to change in temperature using TGA HR instrument with variations in temperature ranging from 0 – 600*C

Acoustical Inspection Process

  • Test the ability of non woven materials for the absorption of sounds waves

Visual Inspection Process

  • Checked for uniform application of coatings on the non woven materials
  • Check for uniformity of dispersion and freedom from flocculation
  • Check to determine the number of constrictions
  • Determine the number of non woven thread counts
  • Check for the presence of molten fibres, undrawn fibres and extraneous materials.
